But actually, Adam… I’ve done the research and looking at Yahoo!’s past, if it buys Tumblr, a ton of things might change. Yahoo!’s been buying up tons of “startup websites” when they look like they’re doing well and making money. In the past, companies like Flickr, Delicious, MyBlogLog and Upcoming have all been bought by Yahoo! but as soon as the deal becomes final and the founders leave, things start to fail. Take Flickr for example. Flickr was a startup that kinda focused on pictures, but gained the community it had by having more to do with social networking. When Yahoo! bought the company, it was just looking for a place to have more popularity in because its search feature was losing to Google.  “That is the reason we bought Flickr—not the community. We didn’t give a shit about that. The theory behind buying Flickr was not to increase social connections, it was to monetize the image index. It was totally not about social communities or social networking. It was certainly nothing to do with the users.” Yahoo! even went as far as to have Flickr users only login with Yahoo!IDs, which turned away both new and old users. Anyway, the whole reason behind this is that Tumblr isn’t making enough money fast enough so, months ago, it’s been put up for sale. Hopefully, Yahoo! doesn’t buy it and someone who knows how to run a website’s community does. TLDR: Reblogging this won’t do anything, but spread awareness. If Yahoo! buys Tumblr, there may be a lot of changes. Hopefully, Tumblr doesn’t take Yahoo!’s offer. (Sorry I couldn’t put a read more)
